Diabetic Eye Exam
In the United States, diabetes is the leading cause of blindness in people under the age of 65. While it can cause cataracts and glaucoma, diabetes can cause the devastating eye disease known as Diabetic Retinopathy. Diabetic Retinopathy is a complication of diabetes involving abnormal blood vessels which nourish the retina of the eye.
As part of our diabetic screening process, we will perform a comprehensive eye exam that includes a visual acuity test, pupil dilation, and careful examination of your retina.
The American Optometric Association recommends that everyone with diabetes have a comprehensive dilated eye examination at least once a year. Early detection and treatment can limit the potential for significant vision loss from diabetic retinopathy
